October 3rd - An Introduction to The Kanban Method by Dave White
An Introduction to The Kanban Method
As a relative newcomer to the process methodology scene, there is a lot of interest and questions in the community about The Kanban Method. Between comparisons with Scrum and inclusion of kanban guidance in the new SAFe literature, there is a lot of confusion about what kanban is and is not.
With roots in the lean manufacturing movement that was born at Toyota in post-war Japan, The Kanban Method is a modern management approach that is an adaptation of lean principals of manufacturing to the creative, knowledge work-based problems that modern software development organizations face. It can help development teams improve delivery through better visibility and limits on work in process.
This presentation will start with an overview of the Kanban Method including the history and motivation. We will then explore the core principles and practices, and how these are used to create a kaizen culture within an organization, and how this culture will lead to efficiency and process improvement in your organization
