March 7th 2013 - Ever hear the one about the business guy, the developer and his manager?

Sounds like the next thing should be the punch line! But seriously, folks, ever hear of the Business Guy talking at an Agile user group? This talk is your chance to hear about successful Agile projects from his perspective, and then from the Development Manager, and then one of the Developers.

Agile projects are about more than just what the Developer does, they are about how business and development interact to create a great product for a customer. In this three part presentation, the Business Guy (Michael Kurtz), the Development Manager (Colin Jones), and Developer (Ted O'Grady) will discuss real life stories based on their significant experience. Topics will include: collaborating and managing scope with the customers; a managers decision to go Agile; the challenges in implementing Agile; keeping customers happy when there are cost increases; how to stay agile on a long project; Agile on a team of 80 members (when you only expected 18); Agile in a startup with only two members and some testing strategies with which they have been successful. It promises to be a stimulating and thought-provoking evening.

About the Speakers:
Michael Kurtz is President of ITforDev, a Calgary based software development and services company focused on bringing innovative IT solutions to the Oil and Gas Industry. Michael has over 30 years’ experience working in the IT Sector with much of it focused on supporting the Oil and Gas Industry. Ted O'Grady There has to be something better, so we can deliver higher quality now! We did that yesterday, how can we do it better today? Ted wants to do better, go faster, and be smarter. Agile with its focus on people, change, delivery, and collaboration is fantastic for today -- Ted likes to learn and deliver at the same time. With over 30 years’ experience developing, delivering and managing great software solutions Ted has come to appreciate learning, improvement, and innovation. He teaches and espouses these principles in his everyday work while delivering great products.

Colin Jones It is an interesting challenge to lead and manage a development team. Encourage innovation, help develop high-quality software, strive for excellence, foster a rewarding work experience, negotiate customer expectations while working within the budget and time constraints of the business. Colin has a track record of leading teams from two to 45 developers and testers in the development of high-quality commercial software products, managing to end up with a happy team and happy customers.
